Look Kids! QUILTS!!!

Well, I've been pretty lazy about blogging lately. So here they are... the quilts and projects completed in my quilt class during the past few weeks! If I missed your project, let me know and I'll try to get it on here and let the world know we're still creating!
Let the games.. er, quilt sharing begin!

Linda made this sentimental quilt in memory of a loved one. It features scraps of familiar shirts in a log cabin pattern.

Gotta love this manly fabric on the back of the pillow, too!
Ms. L has been busy finishing some nice quilts. This 'scrappy trip around the world' quilt is exquisite!
Setting off the borders with the burgundy fabric was a nice touch.  I'm also including a picture of the backing because the garden fabric is really charming.

Marian made this cozy fleece quilt for Halloween. Everyone loves these simple, no sew, tied edge quilts because they're so warm and come in great prints. Can't wait for some cool weather to get under some quilts like this!

Louise has done a lot of great sewing projects over the years. She took this 'Sunbonnet Sam' quilt that was in bad repair and made a pillow and a smaller quilt. Great job restoring an antique quilt that is over 100 years old!
Diane found this super, kid's Dragon fabric panel and produced this brilliant quilt! A deserving little guy is going to get this one. I had to show the cute quilt label too!

Are you still with me? One more gorgeous quilt by Ms. L. Cheery yellow, black and white make up this playful pattern.

A big thanks to all the great quilt makers from the Lakewood sewing class. Sorry to have dropped the blogger ball lately. I hope I get some momentum going with this post and share more real soon.
 Love you for reading!

Quilt Time!!!!

So how is everyone doing? Is your summer going well? Southern California has been very gloomy for a couple days. We even had a little bit of rain. Not enough to water the plants, but just some strange monsoonal moisture.

Quilt class was in full swing Tuesday. A few projects were completed so I thought I would share here...
Jennifer made this cute and hilarious maternity top! An appliqued baby is peaking out through the middle. Jasmine our soon-to-deliver-mom was the perfect model for this unique project!
Gloria has made a few of these nice quilted tote bags. I love the orange owl fabric on this one. Even the inside has great pocket detailing! Orange! Owls! Win-Win!

Below, you'll see the quilted table topper I finally finished. It was an interesting technique. I made these  little round quilts, then sewed them together in squares and sewed down the curved edges. It looked like I had 25 pot holders before it was put together. It's a nice effect, but lots of work for a small quilt. This only came out to about 25 inches square. Here's a link to the instructions if you dare to try it! (click here).
I want to thank all the quilting ladies for letting me share their projects and quilts. It's fun to see the finished product! Keep on sewing !

  Have a Stitchin' Day!

Mother's Day Apron--- Sewing and Quilt Sharing

Mother's Day is Sunday! I forgot to take a camera to sewing class on Tuesday, but I'll have some pictures next week. For a mother's day gift I decided to make my mom an apron. I borrowed a pattern, combined some fabrics I had and came up with this! I hope she likes it!

I thought the grandma cookie jar was a nice touch for the picture. I hope Mom doesn't see this before Sunday; it would ruin her gift surprise!
I used this Butterick apron pattern-- I combined details from a couple views to make the apron you see here. Isn't that bird fabric sweet?
I did the whole thing during one class. My friends were laughing at me sewing so furiously. It's been a while since I've made a garment and I just wanted it finished!
Happy Mother's Day Mom! You are a wonderful mom, grandma and great grandma! Love You!!!

I have also made quite a few sewing and quilt projects around the house. Besides making quilts, I like to make home accessories. Here are a couple to share---
This is a small quilt table topper. I got the pattern for this little octagonal quilt in Quick Quilts magazine a few years ago. The topper is pieced together, then the flowers and stems are machine appliqued on. I used various scraps to make this pretty spring quilt.
I arranged a couple of my knick-knacks in the photo. I learned something new, too. See that interesting silver thing? It's called a 'muffinerr' and it is used as a sugar shaker. I just like the unique, exotic shape  and details on this silver plated pretty!

Finally, I'm sharing my quilted pillow. My friend Weezie gave me this awesome orange butterfly fabric. It's a great combo of things I like... butterflies AND the color orange!

I made 5 large squares with triangle corners and 4 nine patch squares out of scrap fabrics. Most of the scraps had butterflies on them too. If you ever want some free quilt square designs, take a look at Quilter's Cache Quilt Blocks Galore for hundreds of FREE designs and instructions.

Thanks for visiting the Sunset Coast today for a little sewing project tour. Are you working on any sewing projects or quilts?
Have a Happy Mother's Day!

Quilt Share!

Tuesday was another day with the sewing circle. We were working furiously on our quilts and sewing projects. Sharon had 3 new quilts to share. She has been a busy lady!!!
She made this pretty 9 patch quilt above and this cool pattern below. Love the intertwined designs!

Sharon also completed a quilt to donate to charity. I took it outside to photo...

Bobbie has another quilt---
ready to add the binding. Such pretty soft colors and lovely design. Note the machine quilting, again by Ginny!

The quilting class was busy with lots of talented ladies. I hope to feature their work every week here. (Gals, don't let me forget to take a picture of your quilts and projects! )
Until next week... Have a Grateful Day!
My Garden is in Full Bloom!

More Quilt Class Creations

TUESDAY AGAIN!!! It seems to come every week! Another Tuesday, another sewing circle. This week was pretty quiet. I think a lot of the women were on Spring break. Usually our class has over a dozen gals, this week we were down to only 7. Well, it was a good day to spread out our projects on the tables.
Ginny finished the vibrant quilt top shown above. The bright colors are striking. She did each square by laying strips on a muslin foundation, adding another strip, flipping it over and ironing them down as she went. The colors and pattern make a real modern statement! A happy couple will get this as their wedding gift.

Louise is making this quilt for her Women's Charity. She sewed together the strips of scrap fabrics first. Then she sewed them right onto a layer of batting and the quilt bottom fabric.A strip of fabric is sewn between each row of scraps.  By sewing this way, the quilt is already quilted when you finish the quilt top. I've oversimplified the process, but it's a quick way to make this nice lap size quilt. Both Ginny and Louise used a Flip and Sew method with different looks. Some lucky person will get this lap quilt to keep them warm!

I completed the quilt top shown here. It's called 'Scrappy Trip Around the World'. It's a really fun pattern with an interesting technique using strips. You can find the instructions here on  Quiltville's Blog.
I made 20 blocks, added a border in one fabric and another outer border with multiple scraps of fabric. A design flaw in laying out my blocks is really obvious (to me at least) in the photo!  I changed the  offending block before finishing class Tuesday.(Luckily, only one block was placed wrong). I'll show you another photo when the quilt is all done. Do you see the design problem?  AND I still need to back it, quilt it and bind it. No wonder people collect U.F.O.'s! (Un-finished-objects). Quilters get real excited when the quilt top is done, then there is still a lot of work to do!

Ms. L is working on the same Scrappy Trip quilt pattern as me. Pictured below, you can see how using different fabrics produces a completely different look. Can't wait to see how all her beautiful materials come together.I think she is making hers quite a bit larger.

Below is a pretty quilt made by Maria. She has gotten really good at making this braid pattern and this one is exceptional! Love the great fabrics and the triple strips in between really set if off.

See you next week with more Quilt Class Updates!
Have an Original Day!

Quilting and the Sewing Circle Show Off

Good Morning ! Welcome to Sunset Coast. Today is all about quilting. Every Tuesday I attend a class of fun women, our 'Sewing Circle'. We bring whatever project we want. Most of us quilt, some make garments, some just visit and talk. It's pretty much anything you want it to be and fun and therapeutic.
Whenever someone is finished with their quilt or quilt top, we pin it up for everyone to 'oooh' and 'ahh' over. Sometimes we pin up our quilt designs and everyone puts in their 2 cents and opinion on how things should be arranged or completed with borders and suggestions for binding or layout, etc.

Tuesday brought us these beauties to  check out...

Ginny made this gorgeous 'Fun in the Square Quilt'. She is our resident long arm quilter and did a great job on this one. The pattern of quilting is called 'Angel Wings'. Check out the detail on the back too!

Diane is working on this pretty, scrappy Batik quilt. She really has a knack with batiks!

Jasmin is finishing this Christmas table runner using holiday fabrics. I hope I can share the awesome tree skirt she already made to match.

Barbara finished her quilt top using a log cabin pattern. Love the modern fabrics and colors. The square arangement really has depth, like windows!

Cassandra pinned up her quilt squares in shades of blue to check out the arrangement. Louise, our teacher, contributed the nicely appliqued Greek letters. This lovely quilt will be finished up real soon!

Mimi completed this darling quilt made from her son's baby clothes. She's giving it to him to cuddle with . So sweet!

Lastly, I'm showing off the quilt made by Bobbie. Isn't it wonderful?
Bobbie made this Stars and Stripes pattern, for The Wounded Warriors Project. It will be donated to a worthy veteran. Ginny did the detailed long arm quilting for this also; love the freehand star design!
Click on this link to learn more about the Wounded Warriors Project and the great work they do.

That's it for quilting show and tell today. What projects are you working on? Send me a link if you have one!

Have a Cozy Day!
